I am a newbie... and as such all looks a bit daunting... I would like to be able to add reviews etc to my existing website pages - is that possible ro do reviews etc ONLY get displayed on the database pages?
It's possible... but not really a simple thing to achieve. You would need some PHP code on your existing website pages to load the review data from the database and to make it look nice on your site.
It might be better to load the actual HTML review content from your review site (OpenReviewScript part of your site) right in to the pages on your main site. That could be done with a bit of Javascript (jQuery) or even simpler would be to use an iframe to just show the whole review site in a 'window' on your main site. So yes it's possible but you would probably need some help from someone who knows how to do it.
also.. I am trying to add a new category and I get the following error message..
Fatal error: Cannot access protected property CI_Form_validation::$_field_data in /home/ltt/public_html/reviews/application/controllers/manager/category.php on line 106
I should add that even though I ONLYget this error message the category is still created...
If you have a look/search through this forum, I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned and answered previously. It's a bug, and will be fixed in the next release. As you said, the category is still created and I can confirm that everything else is as it should be. This bug came about when I updated the version of CodeIgniter that the script is based on. They had changed something in their code (and rightly so) but it didn't become apparent until this error appeared.
can anyone advise how do I change ALL of the permissions to write within a folder on the server? and do ALL of the folders within the database need to be writeable?
If you are using an FTP program, usually when you set the permissions on a folder there will be a check box that says something like 'include all files and subfolders'. Not all the folders need to be writable, in fact that would be a security risk for your site. The correct files and folders to be made writable are here:
http://openreviewscript.org/install/#set_permissionsI hope that helps, let me know if there's anything else.
